“Freed” makes it sound like they were released by the FARC thugs. The quote you posted says “rescued” which is a more appropriate term.
if you read you would notice that it says “information is sketchy” meaning before the news was releases

“Information is sketchy”? The day before you could just tune in and hear from Betancourt herself what had happened (not to mention Uribe, the Colombian minister of Defense, or every news outlet in the world).
