note the orgasmic glee of the writer without any interest in WHERE DOES THIS 150 MILLION COME FROM?

    EDITORIAL
    In spite of the gripers
PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo aptly remarked during his recent visit to Linden and at the Sunday meeting with residents of Sophia at the Sophia Exhibition Centre, Georgetown, that even with the best intentions there are those who are negative in their thinking and attitude.

    He described them as “gripers.”

Even the medical people will tell us that a positive approach is good for one’s health, and so too in life whenever there are challenges and adversities ahead the best approach to overcome them is to think and act positively.

In the context of Guyana, there are many adversities and challenges as the country tries to push ahead in a difficult local and international climate.

The gripers have been complaining and making excuses about why no one should invest in Guyana.

In some cases they have actually discouraged or taken action to discourage investors here – a typical case of one shooting oneself in the foot.

However, in spite of the gripers, there are many who are thinking and acting positively – some are in the limelight, while others are tapping away positively but quietly in various parts of the country. There are many who are investing in innovative ventures around the country.

One such venture is the New Line Aqua Farm Incorporated at Boeraserie on the West Coast Demerara which is managed by a young and enthusiastic entrepreneur who has already invested more than $150M in the scheme.

The massive fish farm is rearing tilapia and paku for the local and overseas markets.

The young proprietor, Mr Salim Juman Azeez, said the venture is something he always wanted to do, and “it is a like a dream come true.”

A unique feature of the farm which spans 790 acres of land at Boeraserie, is that it has its own nursery and hatchery for the development of fingerlings, and Mr Azeez said he is willing to share and spread the technology with persons in similar ventures.

Prior to this, he added, fingerlings had to be imported and this was costly.

The farm has 28 fish ponds and the long-term plan is to develop 360 ponds over the next 10 years, he projected.

A water recycling plant, a processing plant and facilities to convert solid waste into fish feed are also earmarked for the scheme.

The potential productive capacity of the farm when it peaks is 100,000 pounds of fish per pond per week, Mr Azeez, adding that this output would be able to satisfy the local and foreign markets.

He also anticipates that the venture would eventually create employment for about 500 people.

The entrepreneur should be applauded for pushing ahead in spite of the gripers around.

  2. I was trying to post this news on Propagandapress since it happend, but the site was down. Anyways, i heard thru the “grape vine” that all those vehicles that were seized were cleared with manniram duty-free letters. I can attest to this being correct, because Manniram son, Ravi Prashad is the one that sold salem all those vehicles.

  5. the first comment above we have one govt agency saying that the invetment was 150 million. now here it’s 200 million…which one is it? it’s like the price of the skeldon sugar factory. no one really knows what was the cost

    $200M invested in aquaculture farm
    Georgetown, GINA, October, 9, 2004
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Crops and Livestock, Satyadeow Sawh, today commissioned a new state- of- the- art-hatchery at New Line, Canal # 2, Region 3. The $200M operation presently produces Tilapia and Pacu for local consumption.

Minister Sawh said he is impressed with the development of the operation and that there is potential for international markets.

The New-line Aqua farm has been operating for two years with emphasis on red and gray Tilapia and sweet water Pacu for local consumption and plans for export.

The farm has its own hatchery which supplies 100,000 fingerlings every week. There is also a feed mill which produces floating pellets.

An automatic feeder will be used to supply feed for the fishes. Oxygen filters will also be installed in the ponds to provide a constant supply of oxygen for the fishes.

Owner of the farm Salim Azeez said within the next six months the farm will be in full operation. It is expected to have 365 ponds and approximately 50,000 fishes will be produced daily.

The farm engages in several activities such as the conservation of used water by filtering the water and re-using in the ponds.

There is also a machine which manufactures feed for the fishes. The rearing of sheep contributes to the fish farm, since the manure from the sheep is used to produce feed for the fishes.

The farm has been receiving technical assistance and breeding stock from the Mon Repos Aquaculture Station.

Also present at the commissioning of the aqua farm was Chief Executive Officer of Go-Invest, Geoffery Da Silva, and other senior Government officals.

  6. Stange, in Sept 2008 I had to collect a debt for a overseas advertising agency against New Line Aqua Farm, Seems they didnt even have the money to clear the debt without my intervention.

Their Attorney Nicole Piere interceded and Mr. Azeeze actually threatened me.

But We got them to pay, apparently it was after I told them I would publiush the debt in the Media.

If they are in to drugs why was it so hard for them to pay 3000.00 EU with such an effort?

  15. How much Cocaine has CANU found within the last 5 to 6 months to compensate for the just over $40 million dollars of taxpayer money squander by that Agency over the corresponding period,

CANU is not making any impact in the Drug world with James Singh being head we all know that James Singh father was a respectable man but the chips fall very far from the shoulder

The Agency is purging many of the good officers along with some bad apple, but what is the aim when you have a corrupted person heading such an organization.
