Our movement with wide support in Guyana and working closely with local opposition forces would like your organization to review the Marriott Hotel project in Guyana for the following reasons:
- 1. The Present Government is corrupt and tyrannical

The current PPP administration in Guyana is a corrupt government as can be verified by the Auditor General’s Report and newspaper reports. They are now having serious problems with the Amaila Hydro project because of corruption. They have failed to inform the Guyanese nation who are the financiers of this Marriott Project and everything is done in secrecy. Bear in mind the land allocated for this Marriott Hotel belongs to the people of Guyana and not the PPP government or President Jagdeo, who incidentally will become ineligible to run for office in 2011 by virtue of the Constitution of Guyana and would not be there to protect you or any other investors.
The government is responsible for killing over 200 Afro Guyanese men using its phantom squads. They are torturing young boys by burning their penises with mentholated spirits and only last week the police shot and killed a school boy. Just read the United States Human Rights Report and the Transparency International Reports about human rights abuses in Guyana.
How can the Marriott with its good reputation and tradition of Bill Marriott get involved with a corrupt and murderous government? If the Marriott does not stop their intended project in Guyana, we will have to get solidarity from all the democratic movements, governments and international organizations around the world, even calling for a boycott of the Marriott hotels around the world.
Sir, many organizations do not know about the elected dictatorship in Guyana and soon they will know that Marriott is in bed with a criminal, murderous and corrupt government.
The President of Guyana and the Government incorporated a company named Atlantic Hotel Inc. with Winston Brassington as Director and Ms. Marcia Nadir as Company Secretary.
Winston Brassington is a front man for all the President’s business dealings and is almost on all important government boards in Guyana.
Besides, he is related to the Brassingtons that were recently charged in the USA for various crimes as mentioned below.
Why does the President have this man Winston Brassington on key positions and he is not a skilled person. Brassington was my student in my Accounting class a few years ago and he was a very poor student. But rumours are abound that Brassington is the “collector” of President Jagdeo and other government functionaries.
Marcia Nadir is the daughter of the current Minister of Labour and also sits on various government boards.
This new company with devious characters at the helm will be responsible for the Marriott Hotel project in Guyana.
But who gives the government the authority to enter into the hotel business with tax payers money? This was never debated in the Parliament of Guyana and because it was never brought to Parliament, the hotel project is illegal as it involves Guyanese tax payers money.

- 2. The United States Department 2010 Report on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) placed Guyana at the Tier 2 level.
The Government of Guyana is accused by the State Department of the U.S Govt. of not doing enough to stop the trafficking of persons especially young females of Amerindian descent.

Why should a name like Marriott be associated with a government that encourages trafficking in persons?
Sir, if you visit Guyana you will see little under aged Amerindian girls selling in bars and selling their bodies and the government does nothing. Brazilian girls are being imported by the hundreds and led to prostitution and to work in strip clubs. High government officials are prominent customers of these poor little Amerindian girls and Brazilian prostitutes.
How can the Marriott lends its name to these corrupt government officials?
- 3. Recognition of the Investors in the Marriott Hotel Project in Guyana
The people of Guyana would not recognize this investment in Guyana as legitimate knowing the history of the current government. A change of government in 2011 or later would definitely call for a thorough investigation into this Marriott Hotel project and the investors and anyone involved in this project will have to face the consequences, similar to the Piarco Airport project in Trinidad, where the contractors are facing jail sentences in Miami. They are currently in Trinidad jail. This writer had warned these contractors whilst living in Trinidad during the period 1998 to 2002 that they will end up in jail for fraud etc. Ish Galbaransingh, Steve Ferguson and Brian Kuei Tung laughed at me because at that time their party was in power and they believed they were gods. We would have a similar investigation in Guyana into all projects that are considered illegal and tainted with corruption. The Marriott Hotel project seems to be fishy and the Guyanese people will picket and take to the streets as the government is conducting this business in secrecy. We understand from newspaper reports that the government formed a corporation and will be in partnership with certain section of the private sector in this Marriott project.
The government did not consult with the people nor did they hold any discussions with civil society about investing the people’s tax money in this project.
This Marriott project seems to be a personal investment between President Jagdeo and his close cronies who are dubious characters. Many of these so-called businessmen who we suspected are part of the Marriott project are suspected drug lords but can never be charged because of their close connection to the President and the government.
Also we do not need a next Casino and the churches and civil society will raise all hell on this.
Sir, you cannot encourage a government to steal the people’s money and use your trade name as a front to make the investment legitimate, this is similar to money laundering in the drug trade.
Why is the government keeping silent on who the private sector partners are?
- 4. Violations of Human Rights in Guyana by the present PPP government
Only recently this criminal PPP government headed by a shady President are trying to frame up anyone who opposes them and send them to prison and charge them with trump up charges. For example, Peter Ramsaroop of the AFC party was harassed because he kicked out his tenant, a 19 year old girl close to the President, CN Sharma, the head of the Justice for All Party was charged with carnal knowledge, Freddie Kissoon a columnist of the Kaieteur News had a bucket of shit (human feces) thrown at his face because he writes against the government, Mark Benschop, leader of the Independent Party was jailed on trump up treason charges and later pardoned, Oliver Hinckson was jailed on trump up treason charges and later freed by the court, and many others too numerous to mention here.
This government had a phantom squad that was responsible for killing over two hundred Guyanese including one of their own Ministers, Mr. Sash Sawh and a leading opposition leader, Mr. Ronald Waddell.
It was disclosed in a New York court during the trial of self confessed drug lord Roger Khan, a very close friend of President Jagdeo and former leader of the phantom squad that Mr.Waddell was murdered by the phantom squad.
It was also proven in the trial in New York that the current Minister of Health imported spy equipment for the phantom squad on the Ministry of Health’s letterhead.
Roger Khan was never charged in Guyana and was given a free hand to do all sorts of businesses in Guyana by the PPP government and was even given large tracts of lands which were opposed by the U.S government according to the State Department Reports.
Sir, would you still want the name Marriott tainted with drug money and blood?
- 5. The present government loves to deal with unsavory characters
This government likes to deal with shady characters such as Bernard Kerik, the former Police Commissioner of New York, who is now in a New York Jail, the Brassingtons who are facing prison sentences in USA for fuel smuggling, the current Commissioner of Police Henry Greene whose USA and Canadian Visas were revoked because the US Govt. said he gained materially from the drug trade. Others who had their visas refused for illegality are former Commissioner of Police Floyd Mc Donald, former Minister of Home Affairs, Ronald Gajraj, Kwame Mc Coy, press Liaison officer to the President of Guyana, the current serving Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee had his USA Visa revoked for illegality and many more too numerous to mention here.
Take the present Director of Public Prosecution-DPP, Mrs. Shalimar Ali-Hack who got some airport security officers fired because they searched her sisters luggage whilst they were out going passengers at the local airport.
The President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo fooled the nation that he was married to Varshnie Jagdeo for over nine years until he confessed to the Guyanese people that the marriage was never registered. He eventually kicked his “wife” out without giving her a penny and now she is virtually a beggar.
How can Marriott deal with a wife beater and an abuser of women? His alleged wife Varshnie went public and said she was tortured and treated worst than a dog by the current President of Guyana who is pushing for this Marriott project.
Women groups around the world would be shocked to hear what this President did to his wife and still remains the President of Guyana. But then the PPP government and the President have their killing squads and dogs of war to let loose on those who criticized and expose them.
Would Marriott like to be associated with people like these?
- 6. Economic viability of a Marriott Hotel in Guyana
Everyone in Guyana knows that there is no scope for another hotel in Guyana, so why is the Government of Guyana pushing for a Marriott in Guyana? Guyana hardly gets tourists, the population is small, the majority of people are poor, foreigners hardly come to Guyana, and there is already one casino at the Princess Hotel which drug lords and friends of the President used as a laundermat to wash money.
Many hotels were built for the Cricket World Cup in 2007 and all these are now white elephants due to lack of visitors and many of them are facing bankruptcy. Guyana has four times the rooms it need.
Guyanese are not stupid people, they will make noise on this Marriott issue. Lots of investigations will take place by the media and civil society and the Marriott people will have to answer.
Sir, in view of the above, on behalf on my organization and the people of Guyana, I am requesting you to re-consider your project in Guyana. Do not be fooled by a corrupt regime. If you are sincerely in the business of making money, go elsewhere where your investment would be safe and you can get an adequate return. All the modern hotels that were built for Cricket World Cup are in bankruptcy and selling off, but they are no buyers. This is proof that there is no scope for another hotel in poor and corrupt Guyana.
Building this hotel in Guyana is not feasible and besides it shows support for a corrupt, vindictive and racist government. Building this hotel in Guyana will prove that you support racism, torture, trafficking in persons, apartheid, framing up of innocent people, murder, death squads, raping of underage girls by ruling politicians, and drug dealing as this government is practicing all these evils.
Finally Sir, I am contemplating writing a book on this Marriott Hotel project in Guyana if the project continues as my book will contain an abundant of information to be on the New York’s list of best sellers.
Sorry to say, if this Marriott Hotel project is not stopped immediately, I will also have to ride on the Marriott’s name to make my book become a best seller. This book will be a “tell it all”.
I understand that you are an active member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church, so how can you do business with people who do not believe in God? President Jagdeo is a communist and trained in Russia during the Cold War and he stated publicly that he does not believe in God.
By the way, a few months back, many of your members of the Mormon Church were kicked out of Guyana and sent back to the USA by this same corrupt PPP regime which alleges they were spying for the CIA and the U.S Govt.

It seems that he has not learnt from the Buddy’s Hotel which he supported with concessions never extended to any other Hotel in Guyana including duty free concessions, 10 year tax free holiday and numerous cars including Mercedes Benz etc. In addition, an entire legislation was enacted to permit casino gambling in order to sell the Hotel despite the opposition of all Guyanese.
Today the now Princess Hotel, foreign owned, is the only hotel in Guyana which enjoys those benefits. With lots of druggies and launderers with body guards and bags of Guyanese dollars passing through its parking lot, that hotel has become a Laundromat for illegal money.
His obsession with Hotels has taken on a new dimension. After failing to personally convince private sector funding, Mr. Jagdeo has now committed US$20m of our tax dollars to build a 165 room hotel for the Marriott.
No hotel, all owned by Guyanese, has ever been built with money from the treasury. They were all built with the personal savings and sacrifices of hard working Guyanese. These persons through their investments have been the builders of the local hospitality industry, employing thousands of Guyanese and contributing large amounts of taxes annually. Now these very tax dollars are being used to build a Hotel for a rich multinational that can afford to build such a hotel if considered an attractive investment. Even the Marriott knows that Guyana has three times the rooms it needs.
This money is needed to invest in education, health care, and infrastructure, even to reduce the cost of electricity, to increase public sector wages and to buy sniffer dogs to detect the constant flow of cocaine flowing through our airport. But no, Mr. Jagdeo wants to build a Hotel for the Marriott.
This commitment of poor taxpayer’s money is immoral, illegal, and criminal. It is a barefaced attempt to rob tax payers and give it to a rich multinational and all the shady characters associated with the project.
In so doing, Mr. Jagdeo, with the support of PPP hierchy who are afraid to voice their opposition is taking the country and the PPP to Cheddie’s grave. According to Dr Roger Luncheon last week, the Hotel will be built at all cost(to the poor Guyanese people).
And what about the PPP hopefuls, who are all, lining up to contest the next championship. How would they explain their silence of Jagdeo’s arrogance to Guyanese people?
