Freddie Kissoon: The latest in this diabolical tale is the discovery of $700M cocaine in timber. No one has been arrested. The episode evaporated in the morning sun. Perhaps the Monica Reece homicide was the beginning of this sad refrain that the band continues to play.
For those not familiar with the death of Monica Reece, here is a brief note. One evening, in April 1993 outside of the Hotel Tower on Main Street, the body of Monica Reece either fell out of a pick-up or was thrown by hand from the vehicle. What followed after should have resulted in the resignation of the then Commissioner of Police Mr. Laurie Lewis, and a demand by the population than the government should resign. It didn’t happen. The Reece mystery became a tiny footnote as 1993 wore on.
It is no longer a footnote. It doesn’t exist. Experienced journalists have a fairly good idea who the killer is. No need to mention that at the time he came from a family with formidable connections.
One day I asked one of the past Commissioners of Police in the compound of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital why he didn’t bring charges against the young man. With his characteristic smile, he said that the evidence couldn’t stand up in court. As he walked away with his characteristic gait, I looked at him as he went up the stairs of the hospital. I knew nothing but tragedy would happen to this nation.

Was this a simple case of hit and run with her being high on cocaine at the time, or was she murdered?
Were drugs found in her body at the time of the autopsy, or was this never checked and why?
Who is/was the prominent businessman at the time and is his son’s name Mark Vieira?
Why was there so much conflicting reporting on the description of the vehicle (at least three), such as color, make model, etc., and was some of this deliberate planted misinformation?
Why did Ray Rahaman give up the chase? Was it because he recognized another race car driver as the driver of the pickup truck?
Was she really beaten or did she simply receive the head injuries as a result of a collision with some kind of pickup truck?
Were there other type of bruises on her body consistent with a “vicious beating” before she was killed and not a hit and run?
Were the forensic abilities of Dr. Moottoo up to the task of determining this?
Don’t you think it would be difficult for an individual to push or throw someone out of a truck while it was going at a high rate of speed without loosing control of the vehicle? This would have been especially difficult if the person was alive and struggling with them because they knew what was being attempted. It the person was already dead would it have been any easier? How do you do this while driving and not loose control either way?
Why dump a body in such a public place with so many witnesses around?
