gunman brought in at Guyana office of president to intimidate reporter

Demerara Waves: Security [a gunman] was summoned by Presidential Press and Publicity officer [and boy rapist] Kwame McCoy who chaired the OP briefing at which Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon and education minister Shaik Baksh made presentations.

Baksh was there to refute several claims the newspaper has made in its ongoing reports on contracts awarded to tech company Digital Technologies and stated that they will be taking the matter to court. The briefing got testy when he began fielding questions from Kaieteur News reporter Neil Marks who interjected several times as the minister sought to answer his questions.

The usual format of the briefing is to field matters discussed during the event and then other issues of a topical nature. When McCoy began fielding questions outside of the statements read Marks interjected again to say that he still had questions based on Baksh’s presentation.

“This is not your press conference, mind you,” McCoy stated, to which Marks retorted neither was it his.

After repeated attempts from the reporter to ask other questions McCoy subsequently indicated to another OP staffer to call for security and a presidential guard arrived and positioned himself at the back of the room.
