LTTE wrote to the leaders of the Co-Chairs countries and UN describing briefly the reasons for its existence and expressing its readiness to co-operate with them on a ceasefire and peace talks leading to a permanent solution to the ethnic conflict. The letters were sent to the President of the United States Barack Obama, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, UN Security Council, Commissioner of EU, and the Prime Ministers of United Kingdom, Japan, and Norway.

Thangamma AppakuddiVeteran religious and cultural personality of Eezham Tamils, Thangamma Appakkuddi, passed away on Sunday noon, at the age of 84, after bedridden for a few weeks in a stage of coma at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Apart from her religious leadership, Ms. Thangamma Appakkuddi, was a philanthropist and a social worker, caring for the much needed requirements of women and children in a war-torn society. She was an institution by herself.

Sri Lankan military officials in Colombo said Sunday that Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) had launched air attack on Sri Lanka Army (SLA) positions in Ma’nalaa’ru (Weli Oya) in the early hours of Sunday around 1:45. This is the second time, after the Black Tiger raid on Anuradhapura airbase in October 2007, the Tigers have deployed their air wing combined with the their ground forces.The LTTE is yet to release details of its aerial attack in the fighting in Ma’nalaa’ru.

Ganepola Arachchige Bandula Perera Wijesekara, a member of the Western Provincial Council, is to succeed Jeyaraj Fernandopulle in the Sri Lanka parliament, reports from Colombo said. Wijesekara was next in line in the Colombo district list of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Liberation Tigers Political Head B. Nadesan on Monday sent an urgent letter to Norwegian International Development Minister Erik Solheim, placing a request to the Royal Norwegian Government to take steps to immediately end the military assault of the holy Madu shrine in Mannaar district. “The international community together with the international institutions that are concerned about protecting the historical treasures of the world must be brought together and we hope the Royal Norwegian Government together with them will take the necessary actions to end the attacks on the church,” Mr. Nadesan urged Norway.
LankaNewspapers: An online Tamil News website (orunews) reports that Mr. Jeyaraj Fernandopulle was killed by a parcel bomb and not by a suicidal attack. The website also indicate that video of the bomb explosion shows the bomb exploding at the right side of Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, where as the marathon runners were standing on left of him.
Not only that, the Marathon runners were only wearing running shoes and a small T-shirt, which is reported to be unfit for a deadly suicidal mission that killed 14 people and left more than 90 wounded and 16 of the wounded have sustained serious injuries. Sri Lanka’s Minister of Highways & Road Development, Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, was killed in a bomb blast at the public playground in Weliweraya, located in the Gampaha district of Western Province, around 8:00 a.m. Sunday. 12 persons were killed and more than 50 wounded in the attack that took place while the minister was waving a flag to start off a marathon race in connection with the Tamil and Sinhala New Year celebrations.
