Rose Kabuye arrest in Germany denounced by Rwandan govt

RwandaGateway:The Government Sunday denounced the arrest in Germany of the Director of State Protocol, Rose Kabuye, while on an official mission. Foreign affairs minister Rosemary Museminali told a news conference that the government had summoned the German Ambassador, Christian Clages, to formally protest the arrest.

ANC CONGRATULATES MILLION MAN MARCH ORGANISERS

The African National Congress congratulates the organisers and the many South Africans who participated in the ‘Million Man March’ held at the Union Buildings in Tshwane today (10 June 2008).

The ANC commends them for the initiative they have taken to speak out about crime in the country. Particular mention must go to actor Desmond Dube for the work he has done to arrange and popularise this event. Read more…

Nelson Mandela on US terror watch list

AllAfrica: The United States House of Representatives passed legislation Thursday to erase from government records the designation of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) and its leaders as terrorists.
The legislation, which enjoys bipartisan backing and is supported by the State Department now heads to the U.S. Senate, where it is expected to win easy passage.
“This is a country with which we now have excellent relations, South Africa,” U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in recent Congressional testimony. “It’s frankly a rather embarrassing matter that I still have to waive in my own counterpart, the foreign minister of South Africa, not to mention the great leader Nelson Mandela,” she said, referring to South Africa’s former president who remains on the United States government terrorism watch list.

ANC STATEMENT ON SADC SUMMIT ON ZIMBABWE

The African National Congress welcomes the announcement that a summit of SADC leaders is to be held to discuss the current situation in Zimbabwe.

The ANC hopes that the summit will contribute to a resolution of the problems arising from Zimbabwean elections held almost a fortnight ago, and that it will reinforce the SADC guidelines on free and fair elections. Read more…
