Three Guyana Police shot pursuing govt sponsored gang

Associated Press – GEORGETOWN, Guyana

Scores of soldiers and policemen surrounded the group, led by Guyana’s most-wanted fugitive, late Saturday near the South American country’s border with Suriname.

But fugitive Rondell Rawlins and his gang repelled the initial attack and managed to escape deeper into the jungle after injuring three police officers, police spokesman Ivelaw Whittaker said. One gang member was killed.

Guyana buys two old tourism helicopters with no night capability to fight crime!

y’all think y’all here hear joke. well this one gon mek you laff til yuh belly buss. Jerry Gouveia says not only can’t this old helicopter fly at night. they have a capacity to carry two people!! so that’s how they gon fight fineman eh!! nice job. nice job!

Gouveia told Stabroek News in an interview yesterday that … Guyana needs choppers that could transport 8-10 men … and also do emergency medical evacuations and other tasks. “But the helicopters we are buying cannot do all of these and I wonder whether it was a waste of taxpayers’ dollars,” … He argued that the Bell 206 chopper which flew in on Wednesday was a 1980-manufactured machine … “This is a tourism helicopter”… “By no means it is suited to support our security forces, it could only carry two passengers, cannot carry logistic support and in terms of rapid response and speed this is a joke and a comedy,” Gouveia declared.
Information about the chopper obtained by this newspaper showed that it has a total flight time of over 10,000 hours and has passed through at least three hands.
